SESARAM Conducts Cardiovascular Screening for 187 Healthcare Professionals in Madeira
Madeira GuideSESARAM recently organized a cardiovascular screening for 187 of its professionals over 40 years old, highlighting the importance of preventive healthcare during Heart Month.
In alignment with Heart Month celebrations, the Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (SESARAM) conducted a comprehensive cardiovascular screening for its healthcare professionals. This initiative, held on May 26, took place at the Day Hospital of Cardiology and involved 187 participants over the age of 40.
The primary aim of this screening was to assess key cardiovascular risk factors and to raise awareness about the importance of prevention. By identifying issues such as high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels, and metabolic changes early, healthcare professionals can implement preventive measures to avert the development of cardiovascular diseases.
Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death globally, including in Portugal, where over 30,000 deaths occur annually due to heart-related issues. However, studies have shown that more than 80% of premature heart diseases can be prevented. This underscores the significance of periodic screenings, which allow individuals to better understand their health status and adopt healthier lifestyle choices.
Factors such as hypertension, diabetes, smoking, poor diet, physical inactivity, and chronic stress are becoming increasingly common due to aging populations and modern lifestyles. SESARAM's initiative is a testament to its commitment to health promotion and disease prevention, encouraging the adoption of regular physical activity, balanced diets, and blood pressure monitoring.
