The Portuguese Labour Party (PTP) calls for transparency regarding the possible dismissal of Maria João Marques' case due to prolonged legal delays.

The Portuguese Labour Party (PTP) is demanding explanations from the Judicial District of Madeira regarding the potential dismissal of the case involving enforcement agent Maria João Marques. Marques is accused of allegedly embezzling over €351,000 from 15 different legal cases.

Despite the gravity of the accusations, the case remains unresolved more than 12 years after the initial charges were filed. The recent transfer of the case to mainland Portugal has heightened concerns about its possible dismissal due to statutory limitations.

The PTP has raised critical questions about the prolonged delay, highlighting the lack of accountability and transparency in the judicial process. They also emphasize the plight of the victims who have been waiting for justice for over a decade.

PTP leader José Manuel Coelho has voiced frustration over the judicial system's inefficiency, pointing out the inconsistency of swift proceedings against him for defamation compared to the languishing case of Marques.

This controversy not only underscores the inefficiencies within the judicial system but also raises broader concerns about the rule of law and the public's trust in legal institutions in Madeira. The PTP is pushing for answers and corrective measures to ensure justice is served.
