PTP Demands Accountability for Delayed Justice in Madeira
Madeira GuideThe Portuguese Labour Party (PTP) has called for explanations regarding the delayed judicial process involving Maria João Marques, raising concerns over potential case expiration.
The Portuguese Labour Party (PTP) has demanded that the Madeira judicial district provide explanations for the prolonged delay in the legal proceedings against Maria João Marques, an enforcement agent accused of allegedly embezzling over 351,000 euros from 15 cases.
After more than 12 years, the case remains unresolved, and recent developments have seen the matter transferred to the mainland, which increases the risk of the case being dismissed due to expiration.
The PTP has raised critical questions about how such a significant case could remain unresolved for over a decade, who is responsible for the delay, and what measures are being taken to prevent the case from expiring.
Highlighting the plight of the victims who have been awaiting justice for years, the party criticized the legal system's inefficiency and noted the disparity in how quickly the justice system acted in another case involving the PTP leader, who was swiftly tried for defamation after speaking out in support of the alleged victims.
PTP leader José Manuel Coelho has condemned the situation as indicative of the degradation and discredit of the judicial system, emphasizing the need for accountability and reform.
