The Socialist Party in Madeira has proposed a resolution to keep Quinta da Piedade in public ownership, maintaining its use as a social facility for the elderly.

The Grupo Parlamentar do Partido Socialista (PS) in Madeira has introduced a resolution in the Assembleia Legislativa da Madeira. This proposal urges the Regional Government to halt the sale of Quinta da Piedade, located in Jardim do Mar, ensuring it remains a public asset dedicated to serving the elderly community.

Quinta da Piedade, also known as Solar da Piedade, holds significant historical, cultural, and patrimonial value. The property was expropriated by the Regional Government in 2008 with the original intent of establishing a day center for the elderly. This initiative aligns with the social commitment to provide care and support to the aging population on the island.

The PS emphasizes that the property's intended purpose should not be altered. Keeping Quinta da Piedade as a public resource aligns with broader social welfare goals, ensuring that the elderly community has access to essential services in a familiar and historically rich setting.

Jardim do Mar, where the property is located, is a picturesque village on Madeira's southwest coast, known for its stunning seaside views and traditional Portuguese charm. It is a popular spot both for locals and tourists seeking tranquility away from the bustling city life.

The proposal has sparked discussions about the best ways to serve Madeira's aging population while preserving its cultural heritage. As the island continues to develop, balancing modern needs with historical preservation remains a critical topic.
