No Evidence of Fishing Vessels Held at Sea Off Madeira, Authorities Say
Madeira GuideAuthorities in Madeira refute claims of fishing vessels being held at sea waiting for unloading permission. Both Coopescamadeira and the Regional Directorate of Fisheries assert no knowledge of such incidents.
Recent reports have surfaced alleging that fishing vessels have been detained at sea off the coast of Madeira while awaiting permission to unload their catch. However, both Coopescamadeira and the Regional Directorate of Fisheries (DRP) have issued statements denying these claims.
The controversy began when a local fisherman reported to the Diário de Notícias Madeira that boats were allegedly being held at sea due to unloading delays. In response, Coopescamadeira, an organization representing local fishermen, stated they were unaware of any such incidents. "We have no knowledge of any vessel waiting several days to unload their catch," the organization announced in a public statement.
Similarly, the DRP has also denied any knowledge of fishing vessels being detained. "At no point did the DRP instruct or receive any report of constraints or requests that would substantiate these claims," the DRP communicated. They emphasized that the waiting times for unloading were within the normal range, adhering to the order of arrival.
The DRP further clarified that any delays reported may be due to the regular scheduling and processing of catches, which is managed efficiently to ensure minimal waiting times for vessels.
Coopescamadeira also took the opportunity to commend the DRP for its professionalism in addressing a recent technical issue with the cooling system at the Caniçal Cold Storage and Market, which was promptly resolved.
This clarification is crucial for maintaining the trust and cooperation between local authorities and the fishing community, ensuring that operations continue smoothly in Madeira's vital fishing sector.
