Series of Accidents on Via Rápida
The first incident occurred on February 23, 2026, when five cars collided in the Boa Nova area on the Via Rápida. This accident resulted in two individuals sustaining minor injuries, both experiencing chest pains. One of the injured was a 48-year-old man. Emergency services quickly responded, and the injured were transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further care.
On the following day, February 24, two more accidents were reported. The first, involving a motorcycle and two cars, took place in the tunnel of Viveiros, in the direction from Funchal to Caniço. A 56-year-old woman was injured, suffering a cut and a suspected fracture in her arm. She was also treated at Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.
Later the same day, another collision was reported involving three cars on the ascent from Câmara de Lobos to the Estreito. A woman in her 50s was injured, complaining of chest pain due to the impact of the seatbelt. She managed to exit her vehicle independently before being taken to the hospital for assessment.
