A motorcycle accident and a car fire incident occurred on Madeira's expressway, drawing quick response from local fire departments. Both incidents resulted in injuries and disruptions.

In a series of unfortunate events, Madeira's expressway was the scene of two separate incidents recently, causing concern among locals and tourists alike. The first incident involved a collision between a car and a motorcycle on the expressway in Santa Rita, while the second involved a car catching fire near the entrance to the expressway.

Motorcycle Accident Details

On the morning of March 6, 2026, around 11 AM, a car collided with a motorcycle on the expressway in Santa Rita, heading towards Câmara de Lobos from Funchal. The collision left the motorcyclist, a 35-year-old woman, injured with complaints of pain in her leg and arm. She was promptly attended to by the Bombeiros Sapadores do Funchal and was transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further medical care.

In a similar incident reported later the same day, another motorcyclist in his twenties was injured when a car rear-ended his motorcycle on the same expressway. He suffered an ankle injury and was also taken to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.

Car Fire Incident

Two days prior, on March 4, a car caught fire near the entrance to the expressway from Pilar. The fire was extinguished by the driver before it could cause significant damage or injuries. A heavy firefighting vehicle was dispatched to ensure the situation was under control.

Emergency Response

The Bombeiros Sapadores do Funchal were quick to respond to these emergencies, demonstrating their readiness and efficiency. Their swift action ensured that both the injured individuals received timely medical assistance and that the fire incident did not escalate.

These incidents highlight the importance of road safety and emergency preparedness on Madeira's roads, which are vital for both residents and the island's substantial tourist population.
