The Madeira Regional Government has announced the approval of a significant investment aimed at enhancing healthcare infrastructure on Porto Santo Island. The second phase of the Porto Santo Local Health Unit has been contracted for a total of €28.997 million. This investment will be executed over a period of 720 days and involves the collaboration of several construction entities including Tecnovia – Madeira, AFAVIAS, and Farrobo.

This development marks an important step in improving healthcare facilities and services available to both residents and tourists on the island. Porto Santo, known for its beautiful beaches and tranquil environment, attracts many visitors annually, making efficient healthcare services essential.

Significance of the Investment

The decision to invest in the health sector reflects the government's commitment to improving public health infrastructure, which is crucial for both the local population and the tourism sector. By enhancing healthcare facilities, the government aims to ensure that residents and visitors have access to high-quality medical care.

In addition to the healthcare project, the Madeira government also declared a public holiday on Holy Saturday, known as Sábado de Aleluia, in recognition of its cultural significance during the Easter celebrations. This decision allows employees in public and some private sectors to enjoy a day off.

Community Impact

The expansion of the health unit is expected to create various job opportunities in the construction and healthcare sectors, further boosting the local economy. Moreover, improved healthcare services will enhance the quality of life for the island's residents and provide a safer environment for tourists.
