Madeira Island recently bid farewell to four respected community members: Giraldo Eugénio Gonçalves de Faria, Maria Ascensão de Abreu, Fernando da Silva Ramos, and Maria Judite de Aguiar. Their contributions to local life will be fondly remembered.

The Madeira community is grieving the loss of four beloved residents who have passed away, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories and contributions to their local communities.

Giraldo Eugénio Gonçalves de Faria

Giraldo Eugénio Gonçalves de Faria, a resident of Estrada da Fajã da Ribeira, Ribeira Brava, passed away on May 20, 2026. His funeral was held on May 21, 2026, beginning at the Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça and proceeding to the São Bento parish church, followed by burial in the local cemetery.

Maria Ascensão de Abreu

Maria Ascensão de Abreu, formerly of Caminho do Ribeiro Real, Câmara de Lobos, passed on the same day. Her funeral was organized for May 21, 2026, at the chapel of the Câmara de Lobos cemetery, with a subsequent burial.

Fernando da Silva Ramos

Fernando da Silva Ramos, who lived at Caminho da Cova do Til, São Martinho, Funchal, also passed away on May 20, 2026. His funeral took place on May 21, 2026, with services conducted at the cemetery of Nossa Senhora das Angústias, São Martinho.

Maria Judite de Aguiar

Maria Judite de Aguiar, from Estrada João Zarco, Quinta Grande, passed on May 19, 2026. Her funeral was conducted on May 20, 2026, starting from Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça to the Vera Cruz chapel, Quinta Grande.

Each of these individuals was deeply embedded in their communities, and their funerals were attended by family, friends, and neighbors who gathered to pay their respects. The families have expressed their gratitude for the support and condolences received during this difficult time.

Memorial masses are scheduled for May 24 and May 25, 2026, in various local churches to honor their memories, allowing friends and family to celebrate their lives and contributions.
