Officials from Madeira and Benguela met to explore partnerships in tuna fishing and investment opportunities, aimed at strengthening economic ties and promoting development.

In a significant move to bolster economic ties and investment opportunities, officials from Madeira and the Angolan province of Benguela met recently to discuss potential partnerships in the tuna fishing industry. The meeting, held in Madeira, was attended by José Manuel Rodrigues, Madeira's Secretary of Economy, and Adriano Cardoso, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture, and Fisheries of Benguela.

The discussions focused on strategic areas, particularly the tuna fishing sector, a vital industry for both regions. The collaboration aims to enhance fishery operations and attract investments to Benguela, with a mutual exchange of expertise and resources.

Adriano Cardoso expressed optimism about the partnership, describing the meeting as highly productive. He emphasized the importance of cooperation in training and development, with plans for Madeira professionals to visit Angola and vice versa, fostering skill enhancement and knowledge sharing.

Additionally, the talks included the possibility of twinning the municipalities of Machico in Madeira and Benguela in Angola. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen institutional and economic bonds between the two regions.

The Chamber of Commerce in Benguela plays a pivotal role in promoting local economic development, supporting businesses, and facilitating strategic partnerships both nationally and internationally. This meeting marks a step forward in creating tangible economic opportunities and fostering long-term cooperation.
