Fire in Abandoned House
On the evening of May 18, 2026, a fire broke out in an abandoned house on Calçada de Santa Clara, caused by an individual experiencing homelessness who had been using the space. The Funchal Fire Department quickly responded, deploying ten firefighters and three vehicles to extinguish the blaze, preventing further damage.
Motorcycle Accidents in Funchal
Earlier, on May 17, two separate motorcycle accidents required the immediate attention of the Funchal Fire Department. The first incident involved a man in his 30s who crashed on Rua do Brasil in Bairro da Nazaré. He sustained a suspected leg fracture and was transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further treatment.
In another incident, a 49-year-old woman lost control of her motorcycle near a tunnel by the fire station, resulting in unconsciousness and injuries including a suspected finger fracture and knee abrasions. She was treated on-site and regained consciousness before being taken to the hospital.
