In a remarkable achievement for the Cruise Atlantic Islands (CAI), the ports of Madeira, Azores, Cape Verde, and the Canary Islands collectively managed 4.7 million cruise passengers in 2025. This represents the highest volume of cruise traffic since the association's inception in 1994, according to the Ports Administration of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (APRAM).
The growth in cruise tourism is evident, with a 12.64% increase from 2024, which saw 4.18 million passengers. This surge also marks a significant 46.99% rise compared to the pre-pandemic figures of 2019, underscoring the resilience and popularity of the Atlantic cruise destinations.
"2025 was the best year ever for the CAI ports," according to a statement from APRAM, highlighting the sustained growth in Atlantic cruise tourism.
The CAI ports have become increasingly popular among cruise lines and tourists alike, known for their scenic beauty and diverse cultural experiences. Madeira, in particular, offers lush landscapes, historic sites, and a mild climate, making it a year-round favorite.
This record-setting year is not only a testament to the appeal of these destinations but also indicates a robust recovery and future potential for growth in the cruise tourism sector.
