Chega Criticizes PSD's New Mobility Model as a Betrayal to Madeira
Madeira GuideChega party's Francisco Gomes accuses PSD of betraying Madeira with a new mobility model, pledging significant changes to improve the system for island residents.
In a recent parliamentary session, Francisco Gomes, a Madeiran deputy from the Chega party, launched a scathing critique against the Social Democratic Party (PSD) led by Luís Montenegro. Gomes accused the PSD of betraying the interests of Madeira's residents by supporting a new mobility model that he claims is both confusing and dysfunctional.
The contentious model, which has been introduced by the national government, has drawn criticism for allegedly complicating travel logistics and imposing unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles on the island's inhabitants. According to Gomes, such measures undermine the principles of territorial cohesion and continuity, essential for the residents of Madeira.
"The system imposed by the Government represents a retrogression in the principles of territorial cohesion, obliging island residents to bear costs and bureaucracies that should not exist," Francisco Gomes declared during the session.
The Chega party has vowed to pursue profound alterations to this mobility platform, aiming to alleviate the burdens currently faced by the Madeirans. This pledge is part of a broader strategy to ensure that the island's connectivity is enhanced without additional strains on its residents.
Madeira, a Portuguese archipelago, is reliant on efficient transportation systems due to its geographical isolation. The island's infrastructure and connectivity are vital for both its local economy and its booming tourism industry. Thus, any changes to mobility regulations are of significant interest to both locals and visitors alike.
