A chain collision involving three cars on Madeira's Via Rápida has resulted in two injuries. Emergency services were quickly on the scene to provide assistance.

A chain collision occurred on Madeira's Via Rápida on March 9, 2026, around 19:00, involving three vehicles. The accident took place in the Boa Nova area, heading from Caniço towards Funchal. Emergency services, including the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses, responded promptly to the scene.

Two individuals sustained minor injuries in the accident: a woman in her 40s and a man in his 60s. Both were treated on-site before being transported to the Hospital Dr Nélio Mendonça for further medical evaluation.

The accident did not require the use of a vehicle extraction unit, although two ambulances were present at the site. The quick response of the emergency services ensured that the injured received timely care.

This incident follows another recent accident on the same highway, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety in the region. Madeira's Via Rápida, a crucial artery for local and tourist traffic, demands careful driving, especially in areas with frequent accidents like Boa Nova and the tunnel exits near Quinta Grande.
