First Incident: São Pedro, Funchal
On March 19, 2026, emergency services responded to a call in São Pedro, Funchal. Upon arrival, the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses discovered a man in his 80s deceased in his home. Despite efforts, nothing could be done to save him. The PSP (Polícia de Segurança Pública) was notified and is investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
Second Incident: Quinta Grande, Câmara de Lobos
Just two days earlier, on March 17, the Bombeiros Voluntários de Câmara de Lobos were dispatched to a residence in Quinta Grande. There, they found a man in his 70s dead. Similar to the Funchal case, the PSP was involved, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death.
Third Incident: São Roque do Faial, Santana
The first of these incidents occurred on March 15, when the Bombeiros Voluntários de Santana were called to a rural area in São Roque do Faial. A man aged between 50 and 60 was found dead in an agricultural field. It is suspected that his death resulted from a fall. Five firefighters and two vehicles were deployed to recover the body using rescue equipment.
These incidents, occurring in such a short timeframe and under varied circumstances, have left the community on edge. While no foul play is suspected in any of the cases, the local authorities continue their investigations to provide clarity and assurance to the residents of Madeira.
