Santa Cruz announces a subsidy of 36 cents per kilo for 'extra' category bananas to support local agriculture.

In an effort to bolster the agricultural sector in Madeira, the Santa Cruz municipality has announced a new financial subsidy for banana producers. The initiative, spearheaded by Élvio Sousa, the Secretary-General of JPP, aims to provide an additional 36 cents per kilo for bananas classified under the 'extra' category. This announcement was made during the celebrations of the Day of the Municipality of Santana.

The subsidy is part of a broader strategy to enhance local agricultural production and support farmers in the region. According to Élvio Sousa, this financial aid will be formalized through an amendment to the current agricultural support regulations, allowing producers to apply for this extra subsidy.

Madeira is renowned for its banana production, which is a significant contributor to the local economy. The introduction of this subsidy is expected to encourage more farmers to invest in the cultivation of high-quality bananas, thereby boosting the overall output and economic viability of the sector.

The initiative reflects the commitment of the local government under the leadership of the JPP party to prioritize agricultural development and sustainability. By providing targeted financial support, the government hopes to enhance the competitiveness of Madeira's banana production in both local and international markets.

"This initiative is not just about financial support; it's about ensuring the sustainability and growth of our local agriculture," said Élvio Sousa during the announcement.
