The Social Democratic Party (PSD) has accused the Socialist Party (PS) of creating delays in the mobility subsidy process, crucial for Madeira residents and tourists.

The Social Democratic Party (PSD) has raised allegations against the Socialist Party (PS) regarding delays in the mobility subsidy process. This subsidy is vital for the residents of Madeira and also impacts tourists visiting the region. The PSD claims that the PS has created unnecessary delays by opposing a unified legislative approach.

On March 12, during a Parliamentary Committee meeting focused on mobility, PSD deputies criticized the PS for its handling of the subsidy discussions. They accused the PS of "demagoguery" and creating political noise rather than focusing on resolving the issue effectively. This meeting aimed to schedule hearings on the matter, with the first set for March 18.

The PSD argues that the PS, supported by the Chega party, has been instrumental in creating two separate legislative processes for the same decree-law, thus complicating and prolonging the process. This situation, according to the PSD, has been a deliberate diversionary tactic by the PS to delay the implementation of solutions that are beneficial to the people of Madeira and Porto Santo.

Vânia Jesus, a PSD deputy, highlighted that the PS's actions have historically ignored the needs of Madeira's residents. She pointed out that the PSD had initially waived further hearings to expedite the legislative process, which the PS countered by insisting on separate parliamentary appraisals.

The mobility subsidy is designed to ease the travel costs for residents traveling to the mainland, and any delays or disruptions in its implementation could have significant implications for both locals and the tourism-dependent economy of Madeira.
