In recent days, the Madeira Volunteer Firefighters have been busy responding to various emergencies across Funchal, showcasing their dedication and rapid response capabilities. From home rescues to unauthorized fires, their efforts have been crucial in maintaining public safety.

Home Rescue in Penteada

On March 8, 2026, around 16:50, the Madeira Volunteer Firefighters were called to a residence in the Penteada area of Funchal. A man in his 70s was found prostrated inside his home, requiring immediate assistance. Firefighters gained entry through a window, and along with the Emergency Medical Rapid Intervention Team (EMIR), they provided necessary aid. The man was subsequently transported to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital for further treatment.

Unauthorized Fire in Monte

Earlier on the same day, a separate incident required the attention of the firefighters. An unauthorized fire broke out on Caminho dos Lombos in Monte, prompting a quick response. Three firefighters attended the scene with a light vehicle to extinguish the fire, preventing potential escalation and ensuring the safety of the area.

Traffic Accident in Boa Nova

A few days prior, on March 5, 2026, a traffic accident involving a motorcycle and a car occurred in the Boa Nova area of Funchal. A 37-year-old man sustained pelvic injuries and was promptly attended to by the firefighters. He was transported to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital for medical care.

These incidents highlight the critical role of the Madeira Volunteer Firefighters in responding to emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of both residents and visitors on the island.
