SESARAM Conducts Cardiovascular Screening for 187 Healthcare Professionals on Madeira
Madeira GuideIn a proactive health initiative, SESARAM conducted cardiovascular screenings for 187 healthcare professionals over 40 years, emphasizing the importance of early detection and prevention of cardiovascular risks.
As part of the celebrations for the Month of the Heart, the Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (SESARAM) organized a cardiovascular screening event on May 26, 2026. This initiative targeted 187 healthcare professionals over the age of 40, aiming to assess major cardiovascular risk factors and raise awareness about the significance of prevention.
The screening took place at the Cardiology Day Hospital and involved the evaluation of critical health indicators such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and metabolic changes. These screenings are crucial for the early detection of potential health risks, allowing for timely interventions that can significantly improve health outcomes.
Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death in Portugal, with over 30,000 fatalities annually. However, more than 80% of premature heart diseases are preventable through lifestyle modifications and regular health check-ups. The increasing prevalence of risk factors like hypertension, diabetes, smoking, poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, and chronic stress underscores the need for such preventative measures.
By conducting regular screenings, SESARAM reinforces its commitment to health promotion and disease prevention, encouraging individuals to adopt healthier lifestyles. These efforts are particularly important given the aging population and modern lifestyle challenges.
