The Port of Funchal welcomes two cruise ships, Mein Schiff 7 and Bolette, bringing around 6,000 people, including passengers and crew. These visits mark the end of their seasonal itineraries in Madeira.

On April 22, 2026, the Port of Funchal on Madeira Island became a bustling hive of activity as it welcomed two large cruise ships, the Mein Schiff 7 and Bolette, bringing approximately six thousand people to its shores. This influx consists of nearly four thousand passengers and two thousand crew members, marking a significant event for both tourism and the local economy.

Details of the Arrival

The Mein Schiff 7, operated by TUI Cruises, was the first to dock, arriving from Las Palmas. It carries 2,936 passengers and 1,037 crew members. This visit is part of its week-long Cruise Atlantic Islands (CAI) tour, which will see it visit several other ports before concluding its journey in Las Palmas on April 27.

Bolette, operated by a different cruise line, arrived later in the day from Ponta Delgada. It is currently transporting 1,117 passengers and 614 crew members. The ship's itinerary involves a journey that starts and ends in Liverpool, England, with stops at various national ports, including Terceira, São Miguel, Madeira, and Lisbon. Bolette will depart for Lisbon at 18:30 on Thursday, April 23.

Impact on Madeira

Such cruise visits are crucial for Madeira's tourism sector, providing a boost to local businesses and offering passengers and crew a chance to explore the island's unique culture and natural beauty. These ships' presence highlights Funchal's strategic importance as a hub in the Cruise Atlantic Islands itinerary.

The arrival of these ships not only signifies the end of their current season in Madeira but also underscores the island's attractiveness as a year-round destination, with both ships scheduled to return later in the year.

Locals and tourists alike had the chance to witness the bustling port activity, with many taking the opportunity to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and explore the offerings of Funchal.
