On Wednesday, Funchal Port on Madeira Island became a bustling hub as it welcomed two cruise ships, bringing a total of nearly 6,000 people to the island. This influx includes approximately 4,000 passengers and 2,000 crew members, providing a significant boost to the local tourism economy.
The first to arrive was the Mein Schiff 7, operated by TUI Cruises, carrying 2,936 passengers and 1,037 crew members. The ship, which journeyed from Las Palmas, is scheduled to stay in Funchal for a 38-hour stopover. This allows passengers to explore the island’s attractions overnight before the ship departs for La Palma on Thursday afternoon.
Managed by JFM Shipping, the arrival of these ships is a testament to Madeira’s growing popularity as a cruise destination. The port's ability to accommodate such large vessels reflects its strategic importance in the Atlantic Ocean, connecting Europe to various transatlantic routes.
Madeira, known for its stunning natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage, offers visitors a chance to experience local cuisine, historic sites, and scenic views. The presence of these cruise ships highlights the island's appeal to international tourists and its role in boosting the local economy.
