Car Accident in Machico
On the evening of April 9, 2026, the Municipal Firefighters of Machico responded to a car accident on the road between Maroços and Ribeira de Machico. A woman in her 70s was injured with minor injuries and was transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further treatment.
Motorcycle Incidents in Funchal
In Funchal, the Volunteer Firefighters of Madeira were mobilized for a motorcycle and car collision on Rua do Comboio. The motorcyclist experienced abdominal and pelvic pain and was taken to the hospital for medical attention. Additionally, a separate motorcycle accident on Caminho do Pilar left a 22-year-old woman injured on the left side of her body. She too was transported to the hospital.
Tourist Accident at Ponta de São Lourenço
A French tourist in his 30s was injured after a fall on the Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço, a popular hiking trail in the Caniçal area. The Municipal Firefighters of Machico deployed six personnel using a SANAS boat to reach the site via the sea from Quinta do Lorde.
House Fire in Ribeira de Machico
Late on April 9, the Municipal Firefighters of Machico were also involved in an incident where a 94-year-old woman was affected by smoke inhalation following a house fire in Ribeira de Machico. Although the fire was extinguished by the time firefighters arrived, the woman was transported to the hospital for precautionary care.
These incidents serve as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of emergencies and the continuous need for vigilance and preparedness, especially in an area frequented by tourists.
