PS Criticizes Santa Maria Maior Executive for Lack of Organization and Precision
Madeira GuideThe Socialist Party in Madeira has openly criticized the executive of Santa Maria Maior for its disorganization and lack of precision during a recent assembly meeting, raising concerns among locals and tourists alike.
The political landscape in Santa Maria Maior, Madeira, is currently marked by significant controversy as the Socialist Party (PS) publicly criticizes the executive led by the PSD/CDS coalition. The situation has unfolded following a tumultuous meeting of the Assembly of Freguesia, where critical financial documents were expected to be discussed and approved.
The assembly meeting, held recently, was intended to address the 2025 financial report and the first budget amendment for 2026. However, discrepancies in the documents presented led to heated debates. According to PS representatives, the documents contained numbers inconsistent with those previously sent, and they were allegedly submitted past the legal deadline.
The PS has accused the executive of not only failing to adhere to procedural norms but also lacking professional rigor. The meeting ended abruptly when the president of the junta decided to suspend proceedings due to the confusion, scheduling an extraordinary meeting in the near future to resolve the issues.
In addition to financial document inconsistencies, the PS highlighted further irregularities, such as the improper handling of the meeting minutes from December 30. They claimed the minutes were not distributed to members in advance, yet were pushed for approval without adequate review.
The PS's strong statements emphasize the gravity of the situation, pointing out the leadership's insufficiency in managing the freguesia's affairs. They remarked that the current administration operates with a lack of formality reminiscent of a 'Casa do Povo' rather than a municipal body.
This development not only affects the residents of Santa Maria Maior but is also of interest to tourists, given the freguesia's role in Madeira's vibrant cultural and administrative framework.
