More than 100 emergency personnel in Madeira have completed specialized training in trench rescue, enhancing the region’s disaster response capabilities.

In a significant move to bolster emergency response capabilities on Madeira Island, 116 personnel from the island's fire brigades and the National Republican Guard's Emergency Protection and Relief Unit (UEPS) have completed specialized training in trench rescue. This training was conducted at the Regional Civil Protection Service's Training and Development Center (SRPC, IP-RAM) over the past few weeks.

The initiative, described as a strategic enhancement of the region's rescue apparatus, aims to optimize the regional response to emergencies involving trench incidents. Such incidents can include cave-ins or collapses in construction sites and other areas where trenches are present, posing significant risks to workers and emergency responders alike.

The Regional Civil Protection Service emphasized the importance of this training as part of its ongoing efforts to improve disaster preparedness and response. The training not only equips the personnel with necessary skills but also enhances Madeira's overall readiness to deal with potential emergencies, thereby ensuring the safety of both residents and tourists.

Trench rescue is a complex operation requiring specialized knowledge and equipment, highlighting the commitment of Madeira's emergency services to maintain high standards of safety and efficiency. By investing in such training programs, Madeira continues to demonstrate its dedication to public safety and disaster readiness.
