On the night of April 9, 2026, an elderly woman in her 70s was involved in a car accident on the road between Maroços and Ribeira de Machico. The accident caused minor injuries, and she was promptly taken to the Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for treatment. The incident required the intervention of the Machico Municipal Firefighters, who ensured her safe transport.
Motorcycle Mishaps in Funchal
Funchal saw two separate motorcycle accidents that resulted in injuries. On April 9, a 22-year-old woman suffered injuries on the left side of her body after her motorcycle skidded on Caminho do Pilar. The Funchal Fire Brigade responded swiftly, transporting her to the hospital.

Late in the evening, a 94-year-old woman was affected by smoke inhalation following a fire in her home in Ribeira de Machico. Although the fire was extinguished before the Machico Municipal Firefighters arrived, the woman required hospital care due to smoke inhalation.
