Madeira, a picturesque island known for its stunning landscapes and vibrant culture, has recently been the scene of several incidents involving tourists, prompting discussions about safety measures for visitors and residents alike.

Turmoil in Funchal's Heart

Late on the night of May 8th, a 33-year-old French tourist was found in a distressed state near the railing on Avenida Sá Carneiro in Funchal. The local volunteer firefighters were quick to respond, transporting her to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital accompanied by the police for further assessment.

Traffic Incidents Cause Alarm

The same day saw a traffic accident involving a motorcyclist on the acceleration lane of the highway in São Martinho. The 34-year-old male motorcyclist sustained injuries to his elbow after a collision with a car and was subsequently taken to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.

Earlier, a German tourist in her 60s was struck by a motorcycle while crossing a pedestrian lane near the Mercado dos Lavradores, resulting in minor injuries. She, too, was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Maritime Mishap in Machico

In the waters near the Marina da Quinta do Lorde at Caniçal, a boat capsized due to strong waves, injuring a 76-year-old tourist. Emergency services responded swiftly, and she was treated for body pains at the emergency center of Machico Health Center.

Violence in Funchal

On May 7th, two separate violent incidents occurred in Funchal. A 55-year-old man was stabbed in the face during an altercation in the gardens of Campo da Barca and later taken to the PSP Regional Command and then to the hospital for treatment.

Additionally, a 58-year-old man was assaulted on Rua Dom Carlos I in the Zona Velha of Funchal, suffering a head injury before being transported to the hospital.
