Madeira Enhances Fire Prevention and Response Measures
Madeira GuideMadeira has strengthened its rural fire prevention and combat capabilities with the implementation of the BRAVO level of the Special Rural Firefighting Device (DECIR) 2026, ensuring coordinated efforts among various regional bodies until November 30.
The Autonomous Region of Madeira has taken significant steps to fortify its rural fire prevention and combat strategies, marking the introduction of the BRAVO level within the Special Device for Combating Rural Fires (DECIR) 2026. This initiative is active from June 1st and will continue until November 30th.
This strategic enhancement involves a robust operational framework that coordinates among local firefighting units, the Armed Forces, security services, forest authorities, and municipal civil protection structures. The goal is to ensure a seamless and effective response to any potential fire threats across the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo.
A key component of this effort is the establishment of a dedicated team within the Regional Command for Rescue Operations (CROS). Known as the Information Forestry Maintenance and Exploration Team (EMEIF), this unit is responsible for maintaining vigilant control over the operational prevention device, providing both fixed and mobile surveillance.
This comprehensive plan is backed by a substantial investment of 1.6 million euros from the Regional Government, underscoring their commitment to improving the Integrated System of Protection and Relief Operations (SIOPS). The plan integrates resources from various civil protection agents and cooperative entities focusing on operational prevention and fire combat.
The launch briefing was attended by the Regional Secretary for Health and Civil Protection, Micaela Fonseca de Freitas, who emphasized the preparedness and determination of the integrated forces. This initiative is a testament to the region's proactive approach to safeguarding its natural landscapes and ensuring the safety of its residents and visitors alike.
