The island of Madeira is in mourning following the passing of four cherished members of its community. Each individual, known for their contributions to family and local society, will be remembered in ceremonies held this week.

Gabriel Francisco Sargo

Gabriel Francisco Sargo, a resident of Ribeira Brava, passed away on May 6, 2026. He is survived by a large family, including his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His funeral will be held at the parish church of São Bento, Ribeira Brava, following a service at the Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.

Maria LuĂ­za Jesus Delgado Sequeira

Maria LuĂ­za Jesus Delgado Sequeira, from Porto Moniz, died on May 6, 2026. Her funeral is scheduled for May 7 at the parish church of Santa Maria Madalena, Porto Moniz. Her family extends gratitude to the medical staff and the community for their support during this difficult time.

Irene Nodite de Freitas

On May 5, 2026, Irene Nodite de Freitas of Câmara de Lobos passed away. Her funeral took place on May 6 at the cemetery chapel of Câmara de Lobos. Friends and family are invited to a commemorative mass on May 10 at the church of Santa Cecília.

Arciolina Santos

Arciolina Santos, originally from Lamaceiros, was residing in Porto Moniz at the time of her death on May 5, 2026. Her funeral was conducted on the same day at the parish church of Santa Maria Madalena. A seventh-day mass is planned for May 9 in Lamaceiros.
