JPP Protests Delayed Payments to Madeira Taxi Drivers
Madeira GuideThe Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party is raising concerns over delayed payments to taxi drivers who transport non-urgent patients for Madeira's health services, SESARAM. The delays have persisted for over a year.
In Madeira, the Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party has taken a firm stand against the ongoing issue of delayed payments to taxi drivers. These drivers are responsible for transporting non-urgent patients to consultations and treatments within the Serviço Regional de Saúde (SESARAM), the regional health service.
A vote of protest is set to be presented by JPP at the Assembleia Legislativa da Madeira (ALRAM), highlighting the government's failure to ensure timely compensation for these essential services. The protest is signed by opposition deputy Alfredo Gouveia, who accuses the Regional Government of neglecting their financial obligations towards these workers for over a year.
The issue has raised concerns amongst both the local population and tourists, as reliable taxi services are crucial for the mobility of patients and the smooth functioning of healthcare services on the island. The delays, which have reportedly extended beyond twelve months, threaten the livelihoods of the taxi drivers and the accessibility of healthcare services.
Madeira's taxi services play a pivotal role not only for the residents but also for the many tourists who visit the island. With an emphasis on the island's autonomy and the significance of such services, the JPP's protest aims to push for immediate corrective measures from the government.
