The JPP has voiced concerns that the newly announced measures by the Regional Government fail to address the rising cost of living in Madeira, especially in the context of fuel prices.

The political party Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) has recently expressed dissatisfaction with the measures announced by Madeira's Regional Government regarding fuel prices. According to JPP, these measures are inadequate and fail to alleviate the financial struggles faced by the citizens of Madeira.

In a press conference held at the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, Paulo Alves, a representative of JPP, stated that the government's actions do not effectively lower the cost of essential goods nor mitigate the increasing difficulties that families are experiencing. Alves emphasized that while the government is benefiting from increased tax revenues through ISP (Tax on Oil Products) and VAT on fuels, the residents of Madeira are enduring a significant loss in purchasing power.

These measures do not reach the people, do not lower the price of essential goods, and fail to reduce the high cost of living.

— Paulo Alves, JPP Representative

The criticism comes at a time when the economic pressures on Madeira's residents are mounting, with many struggling to cope with the surging costs of living. Despite the government's promises, the JPP argues that the benefits of these measures are not felt by the general population.

Madeira, an autonomous region of Portugal, is known for its beautiful landscapes and as a popular tourist destination. However, the island's economy heavily depends on imports, making it particularly vulnerable to fluctuations in global fuel prices. The current situation has sparked a wider debate about the effectiveness of the government's policies in addressing the economic challenges faced by the island's residents.

The regional government, led by the PSD/CDS coalition, has yet to respond to these criticisms, but the issue remains a hot topic among local politicians and citizens alike.
