Funchal Extends Municipal Plan Revision to Address Evolving Needs
Madeira GuideFunchal's city council unanimously approved extending the revision of its Municipal Plan by 24 months to adapt to new legislation and address the city's immediate housing needs.
In a decisive move to adapt to changing urban requirements, the Funchal City Council has approved the extension of the revision process for its Municipal Master Plan (PDM) by 24 months. This decision was made unanimously during a council meeting and aims to address the evolving legislative and infrastructural needs of the city.
Vice-President Carlos Rodrigues highlighted that the extension is crucial due to the complexity of the ongoing process and the need to incorporate recent legislative changes, such as the new Land Law. This law introduces significant adjustments in the classification and management of rural lands across Madeira, impacting urban planning strategies.
The council's approval also included a substantial social support package amounting to €460,000, aimed at assisting with medication, higher education scholarships, and housing rental subsidies. Such measures are part of the broader strategy to ensure the well-being of Funchal's residents.
Independent councilors Luís Filipe Santos and Jorge Afonso Freitas also supported the extension, emphasizing the importance of conducting a comprehensive cadastral survey. This survey is essential for identifying affected areas and ensuring that land classifications align with the rights of all stakeholders under the new legal framework.
The PDM revision process is open to public participation, allowing residents to contribute to shaping the city's future. The council encourages citizens to engage in the ongoing public consultation process, ensuring that the revised plan reflects collective interests.
Additionally, the council addressed the administrative rectification concerning the Quinta das Tangerinas project, ensuring that any new proposals will adhere to the preservation of the site's historical integrity.
This extension and the accompanying measures reflect Funchal's commitment to proactively addressing urban challenges while fostering community involvement in the planning process.
