Funchal City Council Extends Municipal Plan Revision for Two Years
Madeira GuideIn a unanimous decision, the Funchal City Council has extended the Municipal Plan revision for 24 months, addressing urban planning challenges and social support initiatives.
The Funchal City Council has unanimously approved an extension of the revision process for the Municipal Master Plan (PDM) by 24 months. This decision, announced during a recent council meeting, aims to address the evolving urban planning needs of the city and ensure effective land use management.
Vice-President Carlos Rodrigues highlighted the significance of this extension, noting it as a crucial step in tackling the complexities of urban planning in Funchal. The extension is intended to allow for a comprehensive cadastral survey and public consultation, ensuring that the revised plan aligns with the new legal framework governing rural land use in the Madeira region.
Independent councilman Luís Filipe Santos emphasized the necessity of conducting a detailed cadastral survey to identify all affected areas and reconcile rural land classifications with legal rights. This process is seen as pivotal in adapting to recent legislative changes and enabling proper development planning.
Another independent council member, Jorge Afonso Freitas, supported the extension, citing the need to adapt the city's planning strategies to the new legal regime for reorganizing rural lands. The revised plan is expected to better serve the city's immediate housing needs and align with broader legislative changes.
In addition to urban planning, the council approved a significant social support package worth 460,000 euros. This package includes funding for medication, higher education scholarships, and housing, reflecting the council's commitment to addressing social needs alongside infrastructural development.
This extension is a necessary step given the complexity of the process and the need to serve the collective interests of the city.
The ongoing public consultation process invites residents to participate in the PDM revision, ensuring that the plan reflects the collective interests of Funchal's community. This participatory approach is intended to foster transparency and inclusivity in urban planning decisions.
