Câmara de Lobos Leads Reforestation and Animal Control Initiatives
Madeira GuideThe Câmara Municipal de Câmara de Lobos is spearheading two significant initiatives: a large-scale reforestation project and a pioneering animal control program.
The Câmara Municipal de Câmara de Lobos, a vibrant municipality on Madeira Island, is making significant strides in environmental and community welfare through two major initiatives. On March 26, a large-scale reforestation project will take place in the Parque Empresarial de Câmara de Lobos, situated in the Garachico area. This initiative is part of the celebrations for the World Tree Day and the International Day of Forests, both observed on March 21.
The reforestation effort, organized in collaboration with Madeira Parques Empresariais and supported by the Instituto de Florestas e Conservação da Natureza (IFCN), aims to enhance the green coverage of the area, contributing to environmental sustainability and community wellbeing. Such initiatives are crucial for Madeira, known for its natural beauty and biodiversity, which are key attractions for tourists and a source of pride for the locals.
In tandem, Câmara de Lobos is also launching a pioneering animal control initiative. Scheduled for March 27 and 28, this project involves the Capture-Neuter-Return (CNR) program in collaboration with the Associação Animais de Rua. This initiative will see around 100 cats, from various identified colonies in the municipality, being neutered and returned, aiming to manage and stabilize the local feline population.
These efforts underscore Câmara de Lobos's commitment to sustainable development and community health. Reforestation projects not only help in combating climate change but also support local biodiversity. Meanwhile, the CNR program addresses the issue of stray animals, promoting animal welfare and reducing potential public health concerns.
For residents and tourists alike, these initiatives highlight the proactive measures being taken to preserve Madeira's natural beauty and improve community life. Such projects are particularly important given the recent weather challenges that have affected the island, including severe storms that have disrupted daily life and tourism.
