Tragic Incidents in Madeira: Two Found Dead, Car Fire in Funchal

On December 24, 2025, Madeira faced two tragic incidents involving the discovery of deceased elderly individuals in different locations. Additionally, a car fire was reported in Funchal on December 23.

Elderly Woman Found Dead in São Roque

On the afternoon of December 24, 2025, the Voluntary Firefighters of Madeira were dispatched to a residence in São Roque, Funchal. A woman in her 90s was found dead at the scene, and despite the efforts of emergency services, she could not be revived. The Public Security Police (PSP) were also alerted to the situation.

Elderly Man Found Dead in Machico

Earlier that day, the Municipal Firefighters of Machico responded to an emergency call at Caminho da Achadinha in Machico. An 80-year-old man was discovered dead, and similar to the incident in Funchal, there was nothing that could be done to save him. The PSP was involved in the investigation of this incident as well.

Car Fire in Funchal

In a separate incident on December 23, 2025, the Voluntary Firefighters of Madeira were summoned around 12:40 AM to address a car fire near the Luso Brasileira area, close to the highway access in Funchal. Eight firefighters and two vehicles were deployed to extinguish the fire using an extinguisher.

These incidents have drawn attention across Madeira, highlighting the critical role of emergency services in responding to such emergencies. The local community remains on alert as investigations continue in these cases.
