In the early hours of January 22, 2026, a man in his 70s suffered a cardiac arrest at his residence in Monte, Funchal. Despite the swift response from the EMIR and the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters, the man could not be revived. The Public Security Police (PSP) were also on the scene to assist.
Sudden Death Discovery
Just a day earlier, on January 21, 2026, another incident unfolded in Santa Maria Maior, Funchal, where a man in his 80s was found dead in his home. Emergency services, including the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters, were called to the scene, but unfortunately, nothing could be done to save him. The PSP was present to manage the situation.
Severe Fall Incident
On the evening of January 20, 2026, a 63-year-old man fell approximately 20 meters into a stream at Largo da Fonte, Monte. Witnesses reported that he appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the fall. He sustained a severe head injury and multiple other wounds. Nearby individuals helped retrieve him, and emergency services transported him to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital for urgent care.
