In a tragic event that unfolded on January 19, 2026, a woman suffered a fatal cardiac arrest on Rua Conselheiro José Ribeiro da Cunha, in the heart of Machico. Despite the rapid response from the Machico Municipal Firefighters and the Emergency Medical Intervention Rescue (EMIR), resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.
Accident on the Rapid Road in Gaula
Later that night, an accident involving a motorcycle and a car occurred on the rapid road in Gaula, heading towards Funchal. The incident resulted in injuries to a man and a woman, both of whom were transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça conscious.
