Tragic Cardiac Arrest in Machico

In a tragic event that unfolded on January 19, 2026, a woman suffered a fatal cardiac arrest on Rua Conselheiro José Ribeiro da Cunha, in the heart of Machico. Despite the rapid response from the Machico Municipal Firefighters and the Emergency Medical Intervention Rescue (EMIR), resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Accident on the Rapid Road in Gaula

Later that night, an accident involving a motorcycle and a car occurred on the rapid road in Gaula, heading towards Funchal. The incident resulted in injuries to a man and a woman, both of whom were transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça conscious.

Tourist Assaulted in Funchal

Adding to the series of unfortunate events, a foreign tourist in her 60s reported being assaulted and robbed on Rua Bela Santiago, Funchal. The incident happened around 8 PM, but the tourist declined transportation to the hospital.

Natural Challenges: Fallen Trees in Santo da Serra

On January 18, 2026, strong winds led to the fall of six trees in Santo da Serra, affecting local traffic. The Machico Municipal Firefighters and the Regional Roads Directorate were tasked with clearing the roads.
