Temporary Relocation of 'Doce Loucura' Sculpture Amid Teleférico Maintenance
Madeira GuideThe 'Doce Loucura' sculpture by José Fernandes has been temporarily relocated within the Almirante Reis Gardens due to maintenance on the Madeira Cable Car, ensuring the sculpture's protection during the works.
In a move to ensure the safety and integrity of the 'Doce Loucura' sculpture, the Funchal City Council has announced its temporary relocation within the Almirante Reis Gardens. This decision comes as part of ongoing maintenance work on the Madeira Cable Car located in the Almirante area.
The sculpture, crafted by renowned artist José Fernandes, remains in the same verdant setting but has been moved to an adjacent flowerbed to facilitate the maintenance operations. The relocation aims to protect the sculpture from any potential damage during the work period.
This temporary measure is expected to last until the completion of the cable car maintenance, scheduled between January and April 2026. Once the works are finished and safety conditions are ensured, the sculpture will be returned to its original position.
Additionally, to accommodate the visitors to the popular Monte Palace Madeira during the cable car's closure, a direct shuttle service has been introduced. This service exclusively caters to Monte Palace visitors, ensuring they continue to enjoy seamless access to the garden.
The decision to relocate the 'Doce Loucura' sculpture highlights the city's commitment to preserving its cultural assets while supporting essential infrastructure maintenance.
