The severe weather caused by Storm 'Francis' led to 44 incidents across Madeira by 10 PM, including fallen trees, power outages, and landslides.

Madeira was hit by inclement weather on January 1, 2026, due to Storm 'Francis', resulting in 44 weather-related incidents by 10 PM. The Regional Civil Protection Service reported that the majority of these incidents involved fallen trees, which accounted for 20 cases.

In addition to the fallen trees, there were seven instances of falling debris, six incidents of landslides, three power outages, four danger signals, two removals of elements at risk of falling, one structural collapse, and one flood reported. The adverse conditions were attributed to the severe weather patterns brought by the depression 'Francis'.

Earlier reports had indicated that by 6 PM, there were 37 incidents, showing a significant increase in the number of occurrences as the evening progressed. The response involved 78 personnel and 38 technical means dispatched across various municipalities to manage the situation effectively.

The island's infrastructure faced challenges as emergency services worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of residents and tourists. Madeira, known for its scenic landscapes and vibrant tourism, had to temporarily shift focus to address the natural disruptions caused by the storm.

Madeira's community and visitors are advised to remain cautious and stay updated with the latest weather reports as recovery and assessment efforts continue.
