Fires in Garbage Containers
On the night of January 29th and into the early hours of January 30th, firefighters from Bombeiros Sapadores do Funchal were called to multiple fire outbreaks in garbage containers across the city. The first incident occurred around 11:30 PM near the Hotel Meliã, followed by fires on Rua da Carreira and Rua de São Francisco, affecting a total of five containers. Nine firefighters, along with a heavy vehicle and an ambulance, attended the scenes to extinguish the fires. Authorities are yet to determine the cause, and investigations are ongoing.
Car Accident on Estrada de São João
Earlier on January 29th, emergency services were also mobilized for a car accident on Estrada de São João. The collision involved two vehicles, resulting in a woman sustaining chest injuries. The Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa and Bombeiros Sapadores do Funchal responded promptly, transporting the injured woman to Hospital Dr Nélio Mendonça for further treatment. Details on her current condition remain undisclosed.
Unexplained Death at Madeira Tecnopólo
Adding to the series of incidents, a man in his 40s was found dead in the public area near Madeira Tecnopólo on the morning of January 29th. Emergency Medical Intervention and Rescue (EMIR), Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP), and Bombeiros Sapadores do Funchal responded swiftly. Although there were no signs of sudden illness or foul play, the exact cause of death is yet to be determined. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to uncover more details.
