Funchal, the vibrant capital of Madeira, has witnessed a series of unsettling incidents over the past few days, keeping the local emergency services on their toes and the community vigilant.

Assault on Rua do Ribeirinho de Baixo

On the night of April 29, a 43-year-old Nepalese man was assaulted on Rua do Ribeirinho de Baixo. He sustained injuries to his face and mouth and was promptly taken to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça by the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses.

Fatality in São João

Earlier, on the morning of April 29, the same fire brigade was called to a residence in São João, where a man in his 50s was found deceased. Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done to save him.

Electrical Fire at Caminho das Voltas

In a separate incident, an electrical fire broke out at Caminho das Voltas, directly in front of a church. The fire, reported at the end of the day, required the intervention of five firefighters and a heavy vehicle from the local fire service.

Medical Emergencies

On April 28, a man suffered a cardiac arrest on Travessa dos Reis. Thanks to the swift action of the EMIR and the firefighters, he was resuscitated and transported to the hospital. On the same day, another man, described as a drug user, was immobilized by locals on Rua Dr. Fernão de Ornelas after behaving erratically in public.

Workplace Incident

Lastly, a workplace accident occurred in a supermarket in the Viveiros area where a woman in her 50s was injured by a pallet. She received immediate medical attention and was taken to the hospital.

These incidents highlight the dedication and quick response of the emergency services in Funchal, ensuring the safety and well-being of both residents and tourists.
