Accident at Fajã da Areia Roundabout
In the late evening, a car accident took place at the Fajã da Areia roundabout in São Vicente. The accident involved a vehicle that lost control, resulting in two minor injuries. One of the injured was a woman. The local fire brigade, Bombeiros Voluntários de São Vicente e Porto Moniz, quickly responded to the scene, providing immediate assistance and transporting the injured to Hospital Dr Nélio Mendonça.
Tourist Injured in Boat Accident
Earlier in the day, a 76-year-old tourist was injured in a boating mishap at the Marina da Quinta do Lorde in Caniçal. The tourist sustained body aches after the boat capsized due to strong waves. The Bombeiros Municipais de Machico were dispatched to the scene and ensured the injured tourist received prompt medical attention at the Centro de Saúde de Machico.
German Tourist Hit by Motorcycle
In another incident, a German tourist in her 60s was struck by a motorcycle while crossing at a pedestrian crossing near the Mercado dos Lavradores. She suffered abrasions and was taken to Hospital Dr Nélio Mendonça. This incident underscores the importance of pedestrian safety, particularly in busy urban areas.
Rollover Accident on the Expressway
On May 7, a separate accident occurred involving two cars on the expressway, resulting in one vehicle overturning. A 34-year-old woman suffered cervical injuries and was treated at Hospital Dr Nélio Mendonça. Seven responders from the Madeira Volunteer Firefighters were involved in managing the situation.
