On January 12, 2026, the city of Funchal on Madeira Island experienced a series of accidents that kept emergency services on high alert. The incidents, which occurred at different times of the day, involved both a car rollover and a vehicle fire, causing significant disruption in the area.

Car Rollover in São Martinho

The first major incident took place in São Martinho, where a car rollover resulted in a critical situation. At approximately 21:25, the Firefighters of Funchal were called to the scene in front of the RG3 area. A victim was found in cardiopulmonary arrest, and a team of 12 firefighters with four vehicles was dispatched to handle the emergency.

Collision on Rua Bela Santiago

Earlier in the day, around 20:58, another accident occurred on Rua Bela Santiago in Funchal, involving two cars. The accident left a 51-year-old man injured with cervical pain. The Madeira Volunteer Firefighters were quick to respond, transporting the injured man to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital for further treatment.

Vehicle Fire on Caminho de Santa Quitéria

In a separate incident that occurred in the morning, a car was completely destroyed by fire on Caminho de Santa Quitéria. The Funchal Firefighters were on the scene with three fire engines to extinguish the blaze. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from this incident.

These incidents highlight the importance of responsive emergency services in Madeira, ensuring the safety and well-being of both residents and tourists. The quick actions of the firefighters helped mitigate the impact of these unfortunate events.
