Car Overturns in Porto da Cruz
On January 8, 2026, a woman in her 50s lost control of her vehicle, resulting in a lateral overturn after hitting a wall in the area of Serrado, Porto da Cruz. The Municipal Firefighters of Machico responded promptly to the scene. The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to the Emergency Department at Machico Health Center. Two vehicles and six firefighters were involved in the rescue operation.
Elderly Man Suffers Cardiac Arrest in Funchal
Earlier on the same day, emergency services, including EMIR and the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters, were called to assist an 80-year-old man who suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest in Lazareto, Funchal. Thanks to their swift intervention, the man was resuscitated and transported to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital for further treatment.
Collision at the Entrance of Via Rápida
A day prior, on January 7, 2026, a two-car collision occurred at the entrance of the Via Rápida in Machico, heading towards Santa Cruz, near a gas station. A 26-year-old woman suffered cervical injuries and was transported to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital. The Municipal Firefighters of Machico were again on the scene to manage the situation.
