Madeira mourns the loss of three esteemed residents as the island community comes together to pay their respects. Conceição Marques de Gouveia, José Luís Vasconcelos de Freitas, and José Firmino de Gouveia Costa are fondly remembered by family and friends.

The Madeira community is coming together to mourn the recent passing of three respected residents. These individuals, who were cherished members of their families and communities, are being commemorated in various ceremonies across the island.

Conceição Marques de Gouveia

Conceição Marques de Gouveia passed away on December 31, 2025. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, residing in the parish and council of Santana. Her funeral will be held on January 2, 2026, at the Municipal Cemetery of Santana. The ceremony will begin with a mass at 11:00 AM, following a vigil at 9:00 AM at the Funeral Home located on Rua da Palmeira, Santa Cruz.

A mass for the 7th day will be held on January 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Parish Church of Santana, offering a moment of reflection and remembrance for her soul.

José Luís Vasconcelos de Freitas

José Luís Vasconcelos de Freitas, who resided in the parish of Lombada, Santa Cruz, passed away on December 31, 2025. His funeral services are scheduled for the same day, beginning with a mass at 3:00 PM at the Chapel of São Pedro. A vigil will precede the ceremony starting at 12:00 PM at the Funeral Home on Rua da Palmeira.

Family and friends are invited to join a 7th-day mass on January 3, 2026, at 7:30 PM at the Center of Prayer in Fonte dos Almocreves, providing an opportunity for communal mourning and remembrance.

José Firmino de Gouveia Costa

José Firmino de Gouveia Costa, a resident of Rua do Lazareto in São Gonçalo, passed away on December 30, 2025. His funeral will take place on January 2, 2026, beginning with a mass at 12:30 PM at the Cemetery Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Angústias in São Martinho, followed by cremation.

A mass in his memory will be celebrated on January 4, 2026, at 5:00 PM at the Sé Cathedral in Funchal, allowing the community to honor his life and legacy.

The families of these individuals express their deep gratitude for the support and condolences they have received during this difficult time. These ceremonies not only honor the deceased but also strengthen the community bonds that are so vital in times of loss.
