Pedestrian Accident in Downtown Funchal
A couple in their seventies experienced a terrifying ordeal when they were struck by a passenger bus in downtown Funchal. The accident occurred near the Empresa de Eletricidade da Madeira. The bus's open rear door collided with the couple as they were crossing a pedestrian walkway. Emergency services, including the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses and EMIR, were quick to respond, providing immediate assistance. The woman sustained abrasions and a scalp wound, while the man suffered a facial cut. Both were transported to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital for further treatment.
Tragic Incident at Chão da Loba
In another unfortunate event, a 44-year-old man tragically lost his life following a cardiac arrest at his home in the Chão da Loba area of Funchal. Despite the rapid intervention of four emergency personnel from the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses, who arrived with two vehicles, efforts to revive the man were unsuccessful.
Elderly Woman Rescued from Her Home
In a separate incident, emergency services had to forcefully enter a residence on Rua Cidade do Cabo to rescue a 78-year-old woman who had not been seen for two days. The woman had fallen and was unable to call for help. Upon entering, the rescue team, accompanied by the PSP, found her in a vulnerable state and transported her to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
