Quinta Magnólia in Madeira hosts the inaugural regional seminar of the ETHOS project, focusing on LGBTQIA+ inclusion and anti-bullying efforts in schools.

Quinta Magnólia, located in the heart of Madeira, played host to the first regional seminar under the ETHOS project, an initiative aimed at fostering inclusivity and combating bullying against the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly among the youth in educational settings.

This seminar, held on the morning of April 23, 2026, marks the beginning of a series of three regional seminars. The project is spearheaded by Opus Diversidades, with Hélder Bértolo at its helm, and is supported by Opus Gay Madeira, led by Paulo Spínola.

The seminar's agenda focused on promoting inclusive environments and strengthening responses to bullying faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals. This initiative is particularly significant in the context of Madeira, where traditional values often clash with modern perspectives on gender and sexuality.

Understanding ETHOS

The ETHOS project is designed to address the societal and educational challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. It emphasizes creating supportive environments that encourage diversity and acceptance, thereby reducing incidents of bullying and discrimination.

By engaging local organizations and community leaders, ETHOS seeks to implement strategies that foster understanding and inclusivity in schools, ensuring a safer and more supportive environment for all students.

This seminar is a crucial step in our commitment to build a more inclusive society, where every individual feels valued and safe.

Hélder Bértolo, President of Opus Diversidades

Why It Matters to Madeira

Madeira, a popular tourist destination, is also a community with deep-rooted cultural traditions. Initiatives like ETHOS are essential in balancing these traditions with the evolving social landscape, ensuring that all residents and visitors can enjoy a respectful and inclusive environment.
