The Socialist Party (PS) voices concerns over Funchal's internal audit plan, citing lack of transformative priorities, especially in urban planning.

In a recent council meeting, Rui Caetano, a member of the Socialist Party (PS) in Madeira, expressed his dissatisfaction with the internal audit plan proposed by the Funchal City Council for the year 2026. Although the plan adheres to legal requirements, Caetano criticized it as being inadequate and lacking in transformative vision.

The proposed audit plan, which is intended to ensure transparency and efficiency within the city's administration, was described by Caetano as 'too weak' to instill confidence among the public. He emphasized the importance of the plan in establishing priorities that would reflect a more rigorous and efficient governance.

Caetano particularly criticized the absence of urban planning in the plan's priorities. He argued that the inclusion of urban planning is crucial, given the rapid development and tourism growth in Madeira, which requires meticulous oversight to balance infrastructural development with environmental sustainability.

His comments come at a time when the city is under scrutiny to provide clear and efficient public administration, especially in areas impacting both local residents and the influx of tourists. The Socialist Party's stance highlights the need for an audit plan that not only follows legal formalities but also addresses key areas of public concern.

"The plan fails to define priorities that are essential for ensuring an efficient administration," Caetano remarked, pointing to the necessity for a strategic approach in the city's audit processes.
