The PS-Madeira is urging the Portuguese government to apply more diplomatic pressure on Venezuela to secure the release of Portuguese-descendant political prisoners.

In a call for decisive action, Emanuel Câmara, the PS-Madeira deputy to the Assembly of the Republic, emphasized the need for the Portuguese government to increase diplomatic efforts to secure the release of Portuguese-descendant political prisoners in Venezuela. This plea comes amid ongoing detentions following the capture of Nicolás Maduro.

Câmara, along with João Torres, the Vice-President of the PS Parliamentary Group responsible for Foreign Affairs, met with members of the 'Comando Con Venezuela', a movement associated with Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. The meeting focused on the political and social turmoil in Venezuela, particularly concerning the unjust imprisonment of Portuguese-descendants.

"The Portuguese government must act more forcefully," Câmara stated, citing the successful diplomatic interventions by other European nations. He highlighted the urgency of freeing the remaining Portuguese-descendants, as only one has been released so far.

Câmara also expressed solidarity with the families of the detained, who are enduring significant hardship and emotional distress. He stressed that these individuals are innocent and have fallen victim to a repressive regime.

The PS-Madeira's call for action reflects broader concerns about human rights and the importance of international diplomatic efforts in resolving such crises.
