The Socialist Party (PS) in Madeira is pushing for a digital transformation of the Mobility Subsidy to ease travel between the island and the mainland, opposing the PSD's proposal that may increase bureaucracy.

In a bid to streamline travel between Madeira and mainland Portugal, the Socialist Party (PS) has voiced strong support for a digital transformation of the Mobility Subsidy. This initiative aims to simplify the process for residents, ensuring that rights are maintained without the burden of unnecessary paperwork.

The PS has criticized the Social Democratic Party's (PSD) recent proposal regarding the Mobility Subsidy, presented at the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. According to the PS, the PSD's revisions would increase bureaucracy by requiring additional document submissions, which they argue does not address the core issues.

Gonçalo Leite Velho, a PS deputy, emphasized the need for a 'dematerialized, simple, and effective' model that would eliminate the requirement for a non-debt declaration and maintain the current travel reimbursement caps of 400 euros per journey. This move is part of a broader push for digital solutions that align with national trends.

Furthermore, PS-Madeira has announced plans to present its own proposal, which would allow residents to pay only 59 euros and 79 euros at the time of ticket purchase. This proposal aims to provide a fair and definitive solution for Madeira and Porto Santo residents, enhancing their connectivity with the mainland.

The debate over the Mobility Subsidy is crucial for Madeira, a popular tourist destination, as it directly impacts the ease of travel for both residents and tourists. The PS's advocacy for digitalization reflects a broader commitment to reducing bureaucratic hurdles and fostering greater integration with mainland Portugal.
