Funchal's port is set to welcome over 30,000 visitors arriving by sea to celebrate New Year's Eve, marking a slight increase from last year.

This New Year's Eve, Funchal, the capital of Madeira Island, is buzzing with excitement as more than 30,000 visitors are expected to arrive by sea. The festivities will see a fleet of 11 cruise ships and a tall ship dock at Funchal's bustling port.

According to the Administration of Ports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (APRAM), these numbers slightly surpass those recorded last year, highlighting the island's growing popularity as a prime New Year's destination. The Secretary of the Regional Economy oversees APRAM, ensuring smooth operations during this peak period.

The allure of Madeira during New Year’s Eve is its spectacular fireworks display, renowned worldwide for its breathtaking visuals over the bay. This tradition not only draws tourists but also brings a significant boost to the local economy, benefiting hotels, restaurants, and other businesses.

Last year, the same number of vessels arrived, bringing a similar influx of tourists who were eager to witness the island's famous celebrations. The cruise liners provide an ideal means of travel, offering passengers a unique maritime perspective on the island's natural beauty and cultural richness.

Madeira's New Year festivities are a blend of traditional and modern celebrations, with events taking place throughout the city. Visitors and locals alike enjoy a variety of activities, from music concerts to culinary experiences, making it a vibrant start to the year.
